Mondelez UK

At Mondelēz International, we work hard every day to delight consumers with our much loved brands. We’re proud to make some of the UK’s most iconic brands, including Cadbury, Kenco, Bassett’s, Oreo and Philadelphia, creating delicious moments of joy for people all around the country.

At a glance ….

Our skilled and dedicated team of more than 5,000 people work across 10 locations in the UK, including six manufacturing facilities and two Global Centres of Excellence for Research and Development.  Bournville is the home of Cadbury. Founded in 1879, it produces thousands of delicious Cadbury chocolate products every day. Each year we produce around 47 million Easter Eggs, more than 300 million bars of Fairtrade Cadbury Dairy Milk and around 300 million Cadbury Creme Eggs! We don’t just make chocolate products here, we also invent new ones. Following the opening of the Global Centre of Excellence for Chocolate Research & Development in March 2012, every new chocolate product created by Mondelēz International for any of its chocolate brands anywhere in the world, starts life in Bournville.

Banbury is the home of Kenco. It’s the largest instant coffee plant in the Mondelēz International network and produces 100 million jars of instant coffee per year. It’s also home to our Global Centre of Excellence for Coffee Research & Development, which means that any new coffee product we launch anywhere in the world, starts life in Banbury.

Sheffield is home to some of the UK’s most iconic sweets brands: Maynards, Trebor and Bassett’s. It’s the largest sugar confectionery plant in the Mondelēz International network across Europe and produces over 40,000 tonnes of sweets each year. In 2013, we were delighted to bring biscuit manufacturing to Sheffield. Following a £6 million investment in new lines, we now make BelVita breakfast biscuits and Oreo cookies here to service British, Irish and European demand.

In addition to our Bournville, Banbury and Sheffield facilities, we run manufacturing plants in Chirk (North Wales), Marlbrook (Leominster) and Crediton.

Investing in innovation ....

The UK is also at the heart of Research and Development for Mondelēz International, with a thriving research and development pipeline full of new ideas across our product categories. In March 2012, we invested £17 million in UK Research & Development facilities boosting capabilities in innovation across the UK. As well as the facilities in Banbury and Bournville we also have a science centre based on the University of Reading campus. The Reading Science Centre is the only global Mondelēz International science centre outside of the US and focuses on the science behind the creation of new products. The centre researches and tests new and improved products, ingredients and processes for Mondelēz International markets around the world.

Delicious and responsible ….

We're deeply committed to reducing our impact on the environment and helping support sustainable farming practices. Our Coffee Made Happy and Cocoa Life initiatives have committed to invest $600 million to transform the lives of cocoa and coffee farmers and their communities. Our Cocoa Life programme was given the award for Environmental Leadership at the Food And Drink Federation Awards 2014.

We’re strongly committed to the communities in which we operate and we’re proud to be a part of them. We invest more than £2.5 million each year in our UK and Ireland communities through cash, gifts in kind and employee time. And we support healthy lifestyles with our five year Health for Life programme in South Birmingham, which enables school children and local communities to grow and cook healthy food whilst encouraging a more active lifestyle.
